Shelly’s Safe Cosmetics list:

Here are some Products that I use and feel are safe to recommend. I do not get any monetary benefit for these recommendations. I have spent a lot of money on products that I was not happy with and will try to save you that trouble. I have tried to list reasonably priced items because I don’t believe we should have to pay more for less. Other colors or products may work better for your skin type.

Stay away from Methylparabens, Propylparabens and SLS or (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth sulfate which are derived from sulfuric acid!) These are used in tons of products like skin lotions and shampoos. They are Carcinogens and allergens. Rule of thumb: don’t put anything on your skin that you couldn’t eat or drink, as these products get absorbed into your body through your pores. (The same way products like the nicotine patch work) You do not need mountains of lather to clean your hair, and it strips all the natural oils out and causes dandruff!

Cosmetics are intended to make you a little prettier, not to change you into someone else. Less is more and it is safer and healthier as well. Be proud of the face you were given. It is the only one like it in the universe!

Here are my favorites:

Lipstick:   I like Primitive available online from www.bewellstaywell.com  It Keeps your lips really soft and doesn’t contain lead or other bad stuff that can actually dry your lips out. I use the darker colors, Belize and Tahiti.

Bronzer, Foundation and Eye Shadows:  Emani Minerals, available at health food stores or online.

Suki Products:  All products are good, especially the velvet facial cream, facial moisture serums and lemongrass cleanser. (approximately $26.00) at health food stores. Macy’s and online at www.upurea.com

Moisturizer:  To spend less, I like to use organic Extra Virgin Olive oil or extra virgin cold pressed Coconut Oil on my face, skin, and cuticles and sometimes on my hair at night. It works just as well as anything else! (The coconut oil is also great as cooking oil and the olive oil for salads and dipping bread)

Concealer/Foundation:  Here’s a surprise. L’Oreal’s quick stick balancing foundation is cheap, safe and available at the drug store!

Eyeliner and mascara:  Ecco Bella

Other beauty products:

Deodorant:  I use Tom’s of Maine Herbal roll on or stick deodorant. I like the Calendula fragrance, but another fragrance may blend better with your particular body odor. It is these pheromones that actually attract the opposite sex, so don’t be in such a hurry to stop them up completely! Do not use antiperspirants. They contain Aluminum which is linked to Alzheimer’s disease and Breast cancer, especially after shaving. Besides sweating is the body’s natural cooling system and the way it gets toxins out!

Shampoo:  there are many. Right now I am using Giovanni smooth as silk
Available at health food stores. Stay away from SLS. I think Kiss My Face is good too.

Body Lotion:  I don’t use it any more. Sometimes I will use olive oil or coconut oil, or a little of the Avalon Organics lotions which smell great!

Astringent:  If you need one, old fashioned Witch Hazel works good, is cheap and available from the drug store.

Sun screen:  Unless you are very fair, don’t use it. There are a lot of bad chemicals in sun screen which will be absorbed into your body. Wear a hat and cover up if you don’t want to burn. The sun is a great source of vitamin D which is an anti-cancer vitamin. Take off the sun glasses and let some sunshine enter your body through your eyes. (Don’t look directly into the sun) Try to get at least 15 minutes of sunshine a day if you can.

Avoid Mouthwash, toothpaste and Whiteners:  a gentle scrub with baking soda alone or mixed with hydrogen peroxide will brighten and clean your teeth and breath better. (keep it away from any artificial teeth)

Along with alcohol, Dye and other dangerous chemicals, most mouthwashes contain Fluoride, a bi-product of the Aluminum Industry and a chemical that Hitler used to make his prisoners more docile. The idea that it is good for your teeth is a big hoax perpetrated by the Aluminum Industry. They actually sold this sludge to cities across the U.S. who dumped it into our drinking water supplies!!!!

Regular 3% Hydrogen peroxide from the drug store is great as a gargle, it whitens teeth and it’s super cheap! Dilute with water if you don’t like the taste.

Avoid perfumes:  Manufacturers can dump any kind of dangerous chemical into the category of fragrance and they usually do! Your own clean skin and pheromones smell the best! If you must use it, dab it instead of spraying. Again, my favorite saying is “less is more”. There is nothing worse than a woman who gets into your car with too much noxious chemical fragrance
and you are forced to breathe it!

Burt’s Bees products are all good and very safe

Exercise!   I know you’ve heard it before. But really, the best thing you can do to be attractive is to exercise and eat right. Eating Salmon is excellent for the skin. Eat less meat and Dairy and more organic vegetables and fruit. By the way, Cancer hates an oxygen-rich environment and thrives on sugar! So eat fewer sweets and get some aerobic exercise to ward off Cancer and keep your blood (and bowels) moving. You will also gain the added benefit of being less depressed and feeling more energetic.
